Department of Maths

About The Department :

The department of Mathematics was established in the year of inception of the college in 2005-2006. It was upgraded as PG department in 2013-2014. The M.Phil. programme will also be offered in future. The department consists of experienced and qualified staff members aims at promoting excellence in teaching and learning and imparting quality education.

The dedicated staff members of this department not only have trained the students in subject level but also in all needed skills and they are handling allied mathematics for various courses.

All the staff members are very active in research and present papers in National and International level seminars / conferences and publish research articles in reputed journals regularly.

Mathematics and statistics are rich areas of inquiry ranging from pure abstractions to concrete applications. The study of Mathematics includes both its pure and applied aspects as well as offerings in Statistics. The language of Mathematics is remarkably powerful and flexible, and the modes of thinking learned in Statistics can yield remarkable insight into the many numbers that pervade modern life. The ideas of Mathematics and Statistics are not only beautiful and valuable in themselves but also relevant to many other disciplines, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Environmental Studies, and Physics

The pure mathematics major is very flexible in order to meet your individual needs and interests. The applied mathematics major allows for a concentration in classical applied mathematics, computational mathematics, Probability and statistics, or financial mathematics. Our programs can prepare you for employment in industry, government, education, and prepare you for graduate study.

The main reason for studying mathematics to an advanced level is that it is interesting and enjoyable. People like its challenge, its clarity, and the fact that you know when you are right. The solution of a problem has an excitement and a satisfaction. You will find all these aspects in a university degree course.

You should also be aware of the wide importance of Mathematics, and the way in which it is advancing at a spectacular rate. Mathematics is about pattern and structure; it is about logical analysis, deduction, calculation within these patterns and structures. When patterns are found, often in widely different areas of science and technology, the mathematics of these patterns can be used to explain and control natural happenings and situations. Mathematics has a pervasive influence on our everyday lives, and contributes to the wealth of the country.

Courses Offered :
  • B.Sc - Mathematics(3 Years)
  • M.Sc - Mathematics(2 Years)
Mathematics as a career :

Those who qualify in mathematics are in the fortunate position of having a wide range of career choices. The abilities

     ¤ to use logical thought,

¤ to formulate a problem in a way which allows for computation and decision

¤ to make deductions from assumption

     ¤ to use advanced concepts,

are all enhanced by a mathematics degree course. It is for this reason that mathematician are increasingly in demand. With a mathematics degree, you should be able to turn your hand to finance, statistics, engineering, computers, teaching or accountancy with a success not possible to other graduates. This flexibility is even more important nowadays, with the considerable uncertainty as to which areas will be the best for employment in future years.

Eligibility :
A pass in HSC with Maths or physics as one of the subject.
